Contract this tripWhy this trip
There is not another city on earth with two Wonders of the World sitting next to each other. Christ the Redeemer, arms open above the city, is one of the New Seven Wonders. The harbour below it — Sugarloaf Mountain, the bay, the peaks running down to the sea — is one of the seven natural ones. Between them sit Copacabana and Ipanema, a hotel on the sand, and a city that treats the beach as its living room. Rio is the most visually spectacular place we take groups, and it handles a hundred people as easily as it handles twenty.
The highlights

- 01Christ the Redeemer at Corcovado
- 02Sugarloaf Mountain by two cable cars, with the true summit view at the top and cafés, markets and Red Beach at the base
- 03The hike to Dois Irmãos — up through a hillside neighbourhood by motorbike taxi, then along the ridge to a view over the whole city
- 04A surf and hike day at Pontal, with boards, local surf guides and beach chairs laid out for everyone else
- 05Sunset at Arpoador, the rock between Copacabana and Ipanema, with street performers, food vendors, surfers below and a famous open-air gym
- 06Ipanema and Copacabana beaches, which are the point as much as any excursion

Who it suits
Large groups, and companies wanting the single most photogenic reward available.
It suits a social, adventurous, independent-minded team — much of the best of Rio happens in free time, not on the itinerary. Excellent for a food-forward group. Worth a frank conversation up front about weather and about city common sense; groups that get that briefing have a better time than groups that do not.
Mike's take on Rio de Janeiro
Rio is one of the most popular destinations in the catalogue and the easiest to fill, because it looks like nowhere else. It is also the one destination where we will tell you plainly what to expect: it rains, sometimes for days, and this is a large city with the petty crime any large city has. Neither has ever stopped a Tripio group from having a spectacular week — our guides brief every group on both. Go between November and March, and avoid late December and early January purely on price.
