Why this trip

Japan is the trip for the group that has done the beach. It is six nights across three cities, connected by a first-class bullet train, moving from the neon density of Tokyo to the temples and bamboo of Kyoto to the castle and street food of Osaka. There is a view of Mount Fuji from a ropeway, a park full of bowing deer, a pavilion covered in gold leaf and a monkey park above the river. Nobody comes back from Japan without stories, and almost nobody comes back unchanged by it.

Who it suits

Mature, well-travelled qualifier groups and leadership teams.

It is the strongest cultural itinerary we offer alongside Peru and Egypt, and by some distance the best for food. Suits attendees who want to explore independently in the evenings. Screen for walking fitness — the days are long and on foot — and set expectations that this is a sightseeing trip, not an adventure one.

Mike's take on Japan — Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka

Japan is the fastest-growing destination in our book, and the reason is straightforward: it rewards a different kind of traveller than a beach week does, and plenty of high performers are that traveller. It is a walking trip — expect long days on your feet and very little adrenaline — but the density of things worth seeing is unmatched. If your top producers skew slightly older, or have simply done Cabo three times, this is the trip that resets the programme.
