Why this trip

Costa Rica built an entire national identity around the idea that the jungle is worth more standing up than cut down, and Guanacaste is where that pays off for a visitor. In one week your group can surf in the morning, ride an ATV through the jungle in the afternoon, fly head-first down a Superman zip-line, hike to a waterfall and swim under it, and end the day on a catamaran. It is the most adventure you can buy at a mid-range price anywhere in our catalogue.

The highlights

7 days, 6 nights. Final order set around your dates.

  1. 01Surfing on Guanacaste's Pacific breaks, with lessons for beginners
  2. 02A jungle ATV ride through the dry forest
  3. 03The Superman zip-line — flown horizontally, face down, at speed
  4. 04La Leona waterfall hike, finishing with a swim in the pool beneath it
  5. 05Ponderosa Safari Park and its wildlife

Who it suits

Active groups on a mid-range budget, and companies that want an adventure trip without the flight time of New Zealand or the price of Iceland.

Good for a young sales team, good for a mixed-fitness group since most activities have an easier option, and strong for anyone who wants wildlife in the itinerary. Not the right pick if the reward is meant to be rest — this is a busy week.

Mike's take on Costa Rica — Guanacaste

Costa Rica is the value pick for a group that actually wants to do things. Compare the excursion list to anywhere else at this price and it is not close — six genuinely different activities, most of them physical, in a country small enough that none of them involve a long transfer. It is also an easy sell to a group that has done Mexico twice and wants the same flight length with a completely different week.
